A Hymn for Election Day (and a Special Playlist)

Today’s a big day in our country. It’s been a long time coming, and by that, I mean a LONG time coming.

Somehow, it didn’t seem appropriate to post another piece in my “Faith, Fear & the Life of a Writer” series this week. Not that faith, fear and even writing aren’t relevant to this presidential election, of course. But people have more important issues on their minds than my thoughts about any of those topics.

Instead, this post will serve as the November installment of the Song of the Month, a regular feature that is near and dear to my worship-loving heart.

Although I usually post current-ish videos here, this time I’m going to go with my all-time favorite YouTube offering. Recorded in 2011, it’s a powerful performance of an even more powerful message.

Watch, won’t you, as Carrie Underwood and Vince Gill remind us of God’s preeminence through this beautiful rendition of “How Great Thou Art.”

Before you return to your regularly scheduled programming for the day, I have one more Election-Day diversion for you. Last month, a faithful Song-of-the-Month listener suggested I compile all the previously posted songs into one YouTube playlist.

I’m not the techie sort, by any stretch, but I decided to take her up on her suggestion. I’ve been listening to the resulting Song of the Month Playlist practically nonstop since then, and I invite you to check it out here–especially if you need a distraction from the noise of Election Day.

Note: We’ll return to the “Faith, Fear & the Life of a Writer” series next week with a practical guide to making our writing more “real.” Until then, catch any posts you’ve missed here, here, here and here.

Also: I’m linking up this week with Kelly Balarie at Purposeful Faith and Jennifer Dukes Lee at #TellHisStory.

Thank you for sharing this! I remember watching it live with chills and tears in my eyes. So very powerful.

And no matter what happens tonight, How Great Thou Art!

How cool that you have pulled together a play list, friend! And it makes me kind of happy to have your company this evening as I settle in to watch the election results.

And aren’t you grateful that God is in control?!

Lois, what a perfect song for today. With the uncertainty of our nation’s future, we ned to remember Who’s really got us, Who’s really in control. And truly, He IS great. Perfect post for today!

Love this hymn! One of my favorites. And no better way to remind ourselves WHO has this whole world in His hands on this day when everything feels out of our control. #RaRaLinkup friend 🙂
