Guest Post: When You Crave Closure

by Lois Flowers

When my friend Bethany introduced her “In ____ We Trust” blog series several weeks ago, I was curious to see where she was going to go with the topic, but I wasn’t sure how it was going to apply to my daily life. I definitely have areas of spiritual struggle and plenty of room for improvement in many spots, but at the time, I was doing OK in the trust department.

Or so I thought.

In my world, one of the marks of a good blog post is when I finish reading and say to myself, “I never thought of it like that before.” With Bethany’s series, that’s happened more than once.

Trusting in Google? Who would have thought? But yes, I do that. In medicine? For me, it’s more like trusting in health insurance, but yeah, check that box too. Acceptance? Let’s just skip that one, shall we? It’s hitting a bit too close to home for my liking.

All kidding aside, even as I was finding much to relate to every week, I kept trying to articulate this one other thing that I often trust in besides God. Several weeks into the series, I still don’t have a catchy little title for it, but it has to do with happy endings and closure and desperately needing to know how things are going to turn out.

Tough lesson to learn, and I remember wrestling with God’s sovereignty 3 years ago when not knowing what was coming and eventually not understanding the outcome fully was so difficult. I learned a great deal about how God is busy working through every piece of our life and others to bring about His desired purpose, and now on this side of it, I am so very thankful I surrendered my heart in the midst of what was going to take place apart from anything I could do. God’s unfathomable blessings lie on the other side of faith with surrender! Loved your depth and persepctive Lois! So glad you shared on Fresh Market Friday, because living this way takes great intention and passion for God’s will! Crystal~

Beautifully put, Crystal. I like the term “faith with surrender.” Isn’t it wonderful when God lets us see things like this in retrospect? It builds faith for the next time the outcome is uncertain, doesn’t it? Thank you for your kind words today!

Oh my word, yes. Your post is one of those that makes me say, “I never thought about it like that before.” So, thank you. I often find myself trusting in outcomes and my desire of the perfect ending. But goodness, when I submit to God’s lead & trust His answer, there is a sweet peace.
Thanks for sharing this! I found you via Grace & Truth. 🙂

If you want to meet to meet God then there is no need to search in Google that how I can meet God. Just do meditation with concentration and pure heart. Definitely you’ll meet God through prayers.

Nice share!

Just read the article. I also find that I trust the outcome more than the God of the outcome but lately, God has been dealing with my heart. He’s told me severally to delight in the GIVER more than the GIFT. And, even though I’ve not been telling God to have His way like you do, I understand that I have to submit my desires to His will and plan for my life. I have found that to be liberating but I’ll confess it’s hard to do, especially for someone with a controlling personality like me. But, I’m learning day-by-day. It’s a process and God is working on me.

“Delight in the Giver more than the gift” … I really like that, Jane. I think this whole thing is a lifelong journey … maybe even part of God’s design to help us learn to depend on Him? Thank you for stopping by … it was nice to meet you via the comment section!
