Song of the Month: “Thy Will”

by Lois Flowers

Song of the month steeple3

A couple of weeks ago, I wrote a guest post for my friend Bethany’s “In ____ We Trust” series. I finished it up in Iowa, at the dining room table of the old farmhouse that serves as guest quarters on my college roommate’s farm.

Was it simply being at Rachel’s peaceful place that sparked a flow of words like I hadn’t experienced for awhile? Or was it the hours of conversation we enjoyed over the course of several days that prompted me to reflect on topics I hadn’t dusted off for a long time?

Maybe some of both.

Whatever the case, when I finished writing the post about a prayer that has literally changed my life, I knew I wasn’t ready to leave the topic. The timing couldn’t have been better, as the tune I had already picked out for July’s Song of the Month fits the theme perfectly.

Be sure to come back Tuesday for more on that powerful prayer. Until then, I have a feeling you’ll be as moved by “Thy Will” by Hillary Scott (of the country group Lady Antebellum) as I am.

Oh my word, Lois: my teenager JUST last night said, “Mom, you have to hear this song I think you and I should sing together in church.” Of course you know which one it was! Yes, yes, yes…there is nothing like the power of gorgeous music with beautifully-expressed truth to make a song so powerful. I came over to check out your blog after I enjoyed your lovely comment on mine and found this post. Love it. Thank you! Have shared it with said teenager. 😉

Elizabeth, I love that you and your daughter sing together in church. 🙂 And yes … the way this song expresses truth so beautifully is just exquisite. If I were a songwriter, this is the kind of music I would want to write. (sadly, I am not, which makes me appreciate it even more!)

Of course I love this. So looking forward to all of what you’ll be sharing soon and thankful for the Lord giving you peace and words and encouragement through this song and friend time!

Thanks, Bethany. I’m so glad I answered that tug that prompted me to email you a few weeks ago … reflecting on all of this has been so timely and helpful!

I’d heard a couple of these songs and seen some video of Hillary and her family a few weeks ago in anticipation of the album, but I hadn’t heard this song. It’s beautiful.
I think I may just have to download the album.
Glad you got to enjoy some friend time, farm time and reflection time.
