Does Your Tired Soul Need Encouragement Today?

by Lois Flowers

Inside: If uncertainty, discouragement or loneliness is weighing you down this summer, I hope this quick prayer helps. ~

“The Lord is your keeper; the Lord is your shade at your right hand. The sun shall not strike you by day, nor the moon by night.” (Psalm 121:5-6, NKJV)

Dear Lord,

Whether we feel seen or unseen by other people, we rest in the truth that you are always with us, always watching over us, always protecting us from the gravest danger: separation from you.

The world is wearing us out, Lord, so we cast our cares, worries and fears on you—one by one, day and night. You know exactly what we are facing right now, and you will equip us with exactly what we need to accomplish it.

It’s so easy to get discouraged, Lord. Strengthen us as we persevere—in difficult relationships, in daily tasks that seem so monotonous, in situations and circumstances that require more than we can give. When we get stuck on the what-if roller coaster, reframe our thoughts to ask instead, “What if God were not on side?”

Thank you for the seemingly tiny happenings that cheer our hearts and lighten our loads—a good word from a friend word, a freshly sprouted flower, an answer to a forgotten prayer. Let us never forget you are always ready to help us, in big and small ways.

We praise you today for your ever-present protection, your steadfast love and your faithful guidance.

Amen.

More Encouragement

I originally wrote this prayer for Bethany McIlrath’s devotional series titled “I’m Tired, Lord: 30 Short Reflections on Psalm 121 for the Sleepy, Sleep-Deprived, and Worn Out.” She shared this series in 2023, and you can check it out here.

Bethany and I met through blogging many years ago, and she has become a wonderful friend. Her recent writing is encouraging my soul so much, and I hope these two posts do the same for yours:

What a beautiful prayer, Lois. This especially touched me: the tiny happenings that cheer our hearts and lighten our loads.

Sometimes God’s care feels very quiet, almost hidden. And then one small thing comes — a kind word, a flower, a little answer to prayer — and it feels like His gentle reminder: I am still near.

Thank you for sharing this. It blessed me.

Hi, Lois. Did you know that I have a HomePage Linkup, where you add the link of your home page? It runs 1st of the month to the third week. Your site would be a wonderful addition 🙂 .
For a tiny inspiration, yes. They happen randomly. The most recent. I’ll be looking for a new vehicle this Fall. I was headed to my daughter’s house to spend the day with the grand girls. Thinking of what we could do, I thought about going for test drives. Sounded good to me. Once with girls, I suggested this. The answer was a big no. I repeated myself. Again, no,. A little bit of time passed and I suggested something better. Go to all the auto centers and test drive one at each of them. That time I got a bigger grown with eyerolls. This made me belly laugh. Not sure if you would call this inspiration, but anytime I laugh like this, I am such a better mood.
Have a fun and safe weekend.
All the best.

Aw, Debra … I’m so glad you were able to see the humor in your grand girls’ responses! Laughter definitely does our hearts good, doesn’t it? Thanks for the heads up about your linkup too … I will check it out. Hope you had a fun 4th!

Saying Amen with you Lois. Sometimes it’s more helpful than we realize to read a prayer someone else has written.

Blessings to you and your family as this week slowly heads toward a close.

Amen! One tiny happening for me today was getting 5 straight hours’ sleep. I usually wake up after 3 or 4 hours and then try to get back to sleep.
